Episode Two
The journey of a lifetime continues with the 1984 National Cage Bird Exhibition held in Chicago, Illinois, my home town! Traveling was not an issue this go 'round. It was the fact that it was decided to enter a grand team of not only 75 Glosters but also a team of 25 Yorkshire Canaries that would prove quite challenging! Soliciting the help of Patrick Varian, President of the National Gloster Club was in order! He felt shear pleasure in accepting the task at hand!
The teams were entered and presented to Nebraskan Judge, Paul Williams presiding over the Gloster Division and Judge, Margie McGee of California who would be judging the Type Canary Division. Ms. McGee, American Cage-Bird columnist, Judge and National Cage Bird Show Board Member for too many years to mention, knew what she would be looking for as she would review all the canaries brought before her that day.
This event would prove victorious for The House Of Crests once again with the win of not only a Kellogg Trophy for having the Best Gloster in Show but a second Kellogg Trophy was also presented to The House for exhibiting the Best Type Canary in Show with a young Yorkshire!!
The "quest to raise the best" once again had been put to the test! Now it's your turn to be the judge!
Have you studied the photos and seen the consistency of the Glosters? The judge certainly could as he would eventually tell the gallery of spectators! Not only did The House Of Crests claim victory with the top four Gloster coronas but also the 5th, 6th and 7th Best coronas and 2nd Best consort as well! All were young Glosters raised that year!
Now comes 1985 the year when the National Cage Bird Exhibition would be held in San Antonio, Texas.
The Barrett family of Kings Lynn, England, consisting of Nick, Ann and their young children, Andrew & Moira were invited to be the guests of the Perez household. Nick would be the judge of the All-American Gloster Show held here in Chicago and as they would be staying at The House Of Crests, it was proper that no House Glosters would be entered in that event.
After touring the city the Barrett family traveled by train to San Antonio to attend their first American National Exhibition. Nick & Ann have had one of the most consistent winning line of Glosters in England for years and still do. It should be mentioned that a portion of the foundation of the Glosters in The House are descendants of that line.
A team of 38 Glosters were to represent The House Of Crests at this event. The judge of the Gloster Division at this 1985 National would be English Judge, Gerry Wolfendale, half of the famous Thomas & Wolfendale line of Glosters. (The second part of The House Of Crests Gloster foundation and families.)
Follow this judge as you view the judging in progress in the photos below and see why once again, The House Of Crests maintains its' hold on the title of producing the finest, most consistent line of Glosters in America to date!
As you can see, The House Of Crests has continued in its' "quest of producing the best!"
Nick & Ann had been so instrumental in the success of The House, I felt compelled to dedicate this 1985 Kellogg Trophy to them and so sent it to Kings Lynn, England where it still holds a place of honor in the Barrett home!
